Waterfront Specific Plan

Updated: Nov 12, 2023

The City of Berkeley is in the process of developing a plan for future use and development of the Waterfront. The 'Waterfront' is defined as "all City property west of Eastshore State Park (East Bay Regional Park District property)." This includes us!

The Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Commission is working on drafting the Waterfront Specific Plan. The Plan currently includes the creation of a ferry service on a rebuilt Berkeley Pier and the construction of two new hotels—one in the Skates Parking Lot and one in place of the Berkeley Marine Center. Parking and access issues associated with the Plan are being addressed in a separate document. The Plan will be brought before the Berkeley City Council meeting on January 23, 2024.

The Berkeley Yacht Club should have a voice.

We are looking for 2 to 3 individuals who are willing to act as Berkeley Yacht Club representatives at the Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Commission meetings. We would also like their help in drafting the BYC comments to the Plan. The Commission meets the 2nd Wednesday of every month. We would ask that the these members report any issues of interest that come up in those meetings at the following BYC Board meetings (the third Wednesday of every month)—the reports can either be in person or in writing. A big thank you to Richard LeBlanc for agreeing to be one such member.
