The days are getting longer and the wind is picking up from the west. This marks the end of Sunday Chowder Races and the beginning of Friday Night Beercans. The new season kicks off with our second annual Summer Racing Crew Party on Friday, March 7. Open to everyone, this is a great opportunity for skippers to meet crew and for crew to meet skippers. Anyone new to racing or looking to enter a boat for the first time should join us and see what it's all about. The party will include a seminar and brief introduction to racing along with the customary Friday night BBQ dinner options.
The first race of the Beercan season is Friday, March 14. All documents including the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions can be found on the BYC website under the Racing tab. It is important to review all documents as they are updated each season. A reminder that Race Committee does not require registration each season—once a boat is on the roster, it is eligible for all future races unless there are changes with the boat or owner.
Friday night races prove to be a fun and exciting way to start the weekend. The races are free and open to all sailors with qualifying boats, regardless of club affiliation. This is made possible by the Beercan Team and the Race Committee volunteers at both the start line and the finish line off the Clubhouse deck. All members are encouraged to participate whether racing or not. Those who race regularly are expected to volunteer during the season.
