An Update on the Docks & Kayak Storage

Scott Barnes

Over the last several months, we have been hard at work improving the guest dock for our members and guests. Projects include graffiti removal, installation of a ring buoy, replacement of deck boards and deteriorated dock framing, as well as replacement of the two pier hoops.

Although a lot has been accomplished, there is still more work to do. Future plans include replacing the three power pedestal heads, which have been previously purchased and are in storage. The pedestal bases will be sanded, primed and repainted. While we perform this work, we are also exploring grant opportunities for a complete dock replacement and plan to apply for a Boaters Infrastructure Grant (BIG) in June 2025.

Some of you may have observed a large section of ISOFLOT that has been dislodged at the end of the guest dock. This occurred in November of 2024, as a result of dredging operations in the marina. We are working with the City of Berkeley to have this resolved. More to follow on this ongoing issue.

As a reminder, if you see an issue with the guest dock, please email the Port Captain at portcaptain@berkeleyyc.org.

In an attempt to organize and clean up the guest dock watercraft storage, we are requesting you contact the Port Captain at portcaptain@berkeleyyc.org to confirm you have a stored watercraft on the dock.

Additionally, we request you temporarily label your watercraft with your name. Painter’s tape and a marker will be available in the manager’s office. This will allow us to determine which kayaks are in use and the ones that have been abandoned. At the end of February, any watercraft not identified to be owned by a club member will be removed, and sold, donated or discarded.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Port Captain.
