2025 Commodore's Cruise to Pasta Pelican

Writer: Graeme LoweGraeme Lowe

It was non-traditional timing for the club’s first cruise-out of 2025, the Commodore’s mystery cruise. Since the Commodore was out of the country on the usual date of New Year’s Day, we rescheduled for mid-January. S/V Merope left the BYC guest dock promptly at 1000 and we motored in warm air and scattered sunshine to arrive at our destination just over two hours later, where our numbers were reinforced by a healthy group of land cruisers at a long table at Pasta Pelican.

While many of those in attendance had been to this fine establishment previously, a few of us had not. Pasta Pelican is notable not just for its extensive menu of pastas, but also for its guest dock. With the recent closure (hopefully, temporary) of the Sam’s guest dock in Tiburon, there are precious few restaurant guest docks left in the Bay Area. So it was wonderful to tie up and tidy our lines, and then walk directly into the restaurant overlooking the Oakland estuary.

After some pasta, a few glasses of wine, and some lively discussion of a variety of topics including (but not limited to) BYC traditions over the years, the land and sea cruisers went their separate ways. S/V Merope and crew enjoyed a delightful sail back to Berkeley, arriving shortly before sunset.
