Tri-Island Pursuit Series 2018 marks the 6th year of the Tri-Island Pursuit Series. With beer can races shifting to Friday evenings, I thought it would be nice to have a monthly Sunday race to bring afternoon sailors out and to keep the Club somewhat lively on the weekends. Thus was born the Tri-Island Pursuit Series.

Dear BYC Member, Important news; Our Berkeley Yacht Club Manager Mark Sokolov has resigned from his position effective July 17, 2018. The Personnel committee, led by Vice Commodore Colin Thompson, has accepted Mr. Sokolov's resignation and is preparing to initiate a search for Mark's replacement, which is no small task. I am working with Mark to assure that we have a smooth transition of his duties to existing club staff temporarily while the committee conducts it search. Mark Sokolov has been solid as a rock for our club during these past four years.
It seems that the enthusiasm for rowing around the marina in a leaky, flimsy homemade boat in cold water is less than I was expecting. Nonexistent comes to mind. Therefore, we will be postponing the Team America Boating Competition until 2019. This will give us an opportunity to reflect on who we are as Americans and how we want to be remembered as patriots.
See you at barbecue. Mark Bird BYC Rear Commodore
Dear BYC Member and lover of things that go Boom! Your club will alive next Wednesday, July 4th, with a pre-fireworks member potluck beginning at 1700. It's a member pot-luck of sides, salads and desserts accompanied by grill your own $5 veggie and traditional hot dogs and burgers.
Vice Commodore Hell Week this year begins on Saturday, June 16th, with the Vice Commodore’s Bon Voyage Dinner Event. That’s roughly 3 weeks before some of our intrepid members will be heading out the gate for a 2000-mile ocean race, Cruise Chair Peter Masson’s Cetacea and Wyatt Jones, skipper on Imagine along with Fleet Captain David Janinis and veteran Pacific Cup racer Paul Kamen as navigator being among the entrants.
It's Springtime! This is a time when sailor's thoughts turn to love and Chicken Parmesan. That's right. This month's dinner meeting will be Italian. Well, mostly Italian. Turns out it's also Queen Elizabeth's birthday so we will be featuring one of her most favorite desserts.
Our renowned boaters swap meet is just around the corner. From shackles to sheets and davits to dinghies, this annual fundraiser provides a wonderful opportunity to buy or sell a wide variety of nautical gear, equipment, clothing or whatever, all while meeting fellow club members and enjoying our famous coffee and donuts and world-renowned hot dogs!
There are several ways to participate in this fun event and support BYC programs…
