This Year BYC is Honoring Old Salts & Presenting the Circumnavigator's Award

May 19, 2018

The Berkeley Yacht Club recognizes and honors its long-term members at the annual "Old Salts" dinner. At 25 years of membership, a member is deemed an "Old Salt", and the member receives a special burgee and a special name tag. Subsequently, the member is again recognized for continued membership in five year increments (i.e. 30, 35, 40, etc. years). Currently, Larry and Billee Telford are our most senior Old Salt members and still racing Antares their Islander 30 in the Berkeley Midwinter races. They have been a member since 1966.

In addition this year, we will be presenting BYC Circumnaigator's Award to Jim Fair and Linda Powers on Chesapeake, Outbound 46 - Berkeley to Berkely 2009 -2017.  Joining two other BYC members Laraine & Mark Salmon (1988 - 1992) and Tina Olton & Steve Salmon (1993 - 2001).  Who's next.

We need your help, if you joined at any time in 1993, this year you will be a 25 year "Old Salt”, in 1988 you will be a 30th year, in 1983 a 35th year, in 1978 a 40th year “Old Salt”, etc. Or if you previously qualified as an "Old Salt" at any of the five-year increments (years 25, 30, 35, 40, etc.), but were not available to be recognized we would like to include you this year.

The Old Salts dinner will be held Saturday, May 19th. I need the help of our newer members especially those of you who have joined in the last two years to assist in honoring our Old Salts. Are you available to help? Please contact Jeannette Lakness-King email or Betty Gray (510-530-4162) or email
