This event held annually at Encinal Yacht Club and provides veterans, many confined to wheelchairs (US Coast Guard & the Alameda/Oakland Fire Depts. do all the lifting of the Vets in chairs on & off the boats), with the rare opportunity to experience a boat cruise on the Oakland Estuary &San Francisco Bay along the San Francisco City front (Boat Skippers determine their own route).
Last year over 250 Vets were served!!!
On their return, all are treated to a BBQ picnic luncheon & entertainment on the grounds of Encinal Yacht Club. Most of the honored guests are U.S. Veterans residing in Northern California Veterans’ Homes and Hospitals plus a few limited to their own homes
Boats Needed -Powerboats have been traditional Sailboats over 36ft have participated in the past 2 years -To Register Your Boat go to Encinal Yacht Club website.
Volunteers from each of our PICYA member clubs make this memorable day possible for our guests & their caregivers . Work all day or just a couple hours!
I will have forms at tonight's Dinner Meeting & will leave extras at the club
Volunteers needed are : (1) assist in welcoming, (2) assist boarding, (3)preparing & serving lunch, (4)kitchen crew (5) wheel chair pushing (6)misc assists . All vets are given gift bags filled with personal care items - toothbrushes, tooth paste, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, soaps
