Cruising South. Ahhhhhhhh……the Berkeley YC did their traditional cruise out to the Half Moon Bay YC over the Labor Day Weekend and it lived up to expectations. Cruisers came from far and wide both by sea and also by land.
If you have not made this voyage before then mark your calendars for next year because it is one of the best. We had a handful of yachts make the trip and we all had a blast. Margaux (yours truly), Knot Studying (Mike Dvorak ), GravlaX (Gael Simon) , Windsong (Will & Terri Hand) Sea Quest (Carol & Kip Keiper) Salsera (Paul Deluca), Starkite (George & Cindy Durden) represented BYC in style.
Margaux even got to fly spinnaker for the first time due to the able handling of crew Greg Davids and Lisa Chapin. Great ride down! The long weekend included a sailors welcome dinner at HMBYC followed by a BYC dinner at the HMB Brewing Co. on Sat. then a HMBYC fiesta dinner with dancing. The gang then made their way home on the Monday under brilliant sunshine which even allowed for topless sunbathing on one of the returning yachts.
All in all it was a rewarding experience and if you have not made the passage, mark it in your TO-DO list for next Labor Day.
It is SO worthwhile.
