A Message from the Commodore

Hi everyone, I hope you are staying at home and finding some interesting things to do or learn. I wish I could say this is a bad April fool's joke but unfortunately staying home is the best way to keep us all healthy. Our monthly membership dues will be going out on April 1st. I encourage everyone to support their membership as usual. There are a number of club upgrades in the works as well as many ongoing financial responsibilities to keep current. We appreciate your continued support of Berkeley Yacht Club while we are going through this trying time.

Notice March Corporation Meeting March 21st.

This Saturday, March 21st at 7:00pm, Berkeley Yacht Club will host it's March 2020 Corporation Meeting as required by our bylaws. As we must comply with Alameda County and City of Berkeley’s call to “shelter-in-place” this will be accomplished via the video conference application called Zoom. Feel free to use your computer and webcam and make sure you have active computer audio. You may also dial in with your phone if you would prefer. Just prior to the meeting we will send out a message with the video conference link or dial-in number.

Update on Club Status

The BYC Board of Directors held a special Skype meeting Tuesday, March 17th to address the current COVID-19 directives. Decisions were made based on the mandate to shelter in place and to close all non-essential businesses. Therefore the BYC will remain closed to all members until further notice.

January Dinner Meeting and Speaker

January 18, 2020

For January we have a guest booked. We will have the privilege to have Mr. Anthony M. (Mac) Smith as the featured speaker. Mac has an amazing life story as a mechanical engineer that ranges from working on the Apollo 11, Jet engines, and nuclear reactors. He will share with us his story about designing the Apollo 11 Command Module recovery system that allowed the capsule to land safely at sea.

As for food, I have a little Argentinean surprise and some space teamed snacks.

This year Steve Crawford and myself are planning a simple breakfast of waffles, maple syrup, a sausage each with OJ or Coffee to drink. The breakfast will be offered from 9am to 11am.
