Commodore's Ball

December 6, 2014

Commodore Bob Gray and Betty Gray request the pleasure of your company at the Commodore"s Ball on Saturday, December 6, 2014.  Cocktails - 1800 and Dinner - 1900 catered by Skates by the Bay.  Dinner will be followed by the changing of the watch and dancing until midnight.  Formal invitation have been mail, if you did not receive an invitation please contact the BYC office at 510-843-9292.

Pegasus Outreach Event

BYC will host an outreach dinner with Pegasus Project on Saturday November 8, 2014 and will offer affordable buffet style dinner (pay at the door) starting at 7pm.  This is a great opportunity to learn about BYC’s partnership with Pegasus to provide youth and community service.   Please bring family and friends!  Pegasus will be available for tour at BYC guest dock as of 3.30 pm.
Berkeley Vice Mayor Linda Maio (who represents the marina district) will attend and will make awards to Pegasus donors, crew and volunteers at 7.45.

Art & Photo Expo at BYC - Sunday, October 12th

Art Lovers, we have a pretty impressive show coming up on Sunday, October 12th with talented artists and photographers.  All proceeds will benefit Pegasus Voyages, if you have an old camera gear or other items to donate, these will be autioned to benefit the project.  Of course, cash donations are always welcome.  All donations are tax deductible.  The schedule for the day is impressive.  Starting at 0900 with breakfast, beginning at 1000 viewing of the art.  All day Pegasus Boat rides start at 1000.  Kevin and Renee Murray will be displaying about 100 antique and classic cameras from thei

Shoreline Clean-Up

Saturday, Sept. 20, 9 am - noon

This year's International Coastal Cleanup Event is taking place on Saturday, September 20th from 9:00am to Noon.  Berkeley Yacht Club has been an active participant in the Shoreline Cleanup and we need your support to continue this important work.  This is an excellent way to protect our Bay by having BYC volunteers participate in the cleanup along the Berkeley Marina's rocky coastline.  If you can volunteer to help please contact Betty Gray at bettygray@bigplanet.com.

Staff Commodore Bert Emberton Passed Away August 2nd

Memorial Service Sunday, August 10, 2014 1:00pm - 4:00pm

Bert Emberton, BYC Commodore 1965 passed away on Saturday, August 2nd.  Bert's family has planned a memorial service at Berkeley Yacht Club on Sunday, August 10th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.  Bert has been a huge part of BYC from obtaining our first liquor license to receiving the commentative US flag at the Old Salts dinner this year.  You are invited to share with his family your fond memories of Bert.

Do you know where these BYC kids spent last week?

They were participating in Berkeley Yacht Club's second annual 2014 Kids" Sailing and Fun Camp.  Many thanks to Michael Whitfield, Falk Meissner, Robin Crawford, parents and grandparents who volunteered their time to give 15 to 25 BYC kids a chance to experience the fun of sailing, kayaking, rowing, Dragon boating, kite flying, building/playing at Adventure Playground and a special day on the SF Bay Marine Enviornmental research vessel.  Ozzie volunteered his Cal 20 to take kids and adults out for a sail in the marina/bay.  Paul Kamen provide the Dragon boat and instructions as we (25 kids

BYC's US Flag flies over Capital

In honor of Berkeley Yacht Club 75th anniversary Michael Whitfield arranges with Dianne Feinstein, US Senator from California to fly this US Flag on April 28th over the capital.  Michael and Patrict Hind-Smith presented it to the club at the Old Salts Dinner on May 17th to Staff Commodore Bert Emberton 1965 and Commodore Bob Gray 2014 to fly over the club during special events.

The Berkeley Yacht Club recognizes and honors its long time members at the annual "Old Salts" dinner.  At 25 years of membership, a member is deemed an "Old Salt", and the member is our guest for the dinner and receives "the gold watch" of BYC, a special burgee and name tag.  Subsequently, members are again recognized for continued membership in five year increments.  They have wonderful stories to share.  We are planning a wonderful dinner so make your reservations by May 14th.  Don't miss this very special evening.
