Do you know where these BYC kids spent last week?

They were participating in Berkeley Yacht Club's second annual 2014 Kids" Sailing and Fun Camp.  Many thanks to Michael Whitfield, Falk Meissner, Robin Crawford, parents and grandparents who volunteered their time to give 15 to 25 BYC kids a chance to experience the fun of sailing, kayaking, rowing, Dragon boating, kite flying, building/playing at Adventure Playground and a special day on the SF Bay Marine Enviornmental research vessel.  Ozzie volunteered his Cal 20 to take kids and adults out for a sail in the marina/bay.  Paul Kamen provide the Dragon boat and instructions as we (25 kids

BYC's US Flag flies over Capital

In honor of Berkeley Yacht Club 75th anniversary Michael Whitfield arranges with Dianne Feinstein, US Senator from California to fly this US Flag on April 28th over the capital.  Michael and Patrict Hind-Smith presented it to the club at the Old Salts Dinner on May 17th to Staff Commodore Bert Emberton 1965 and Commodore Bob Gray 2014 to fly over the club during special events.

Berkeley Yacht Club Song written for the first dinner June 1, 1939

In the coastal town of Berkeley,
On old San Francisco Bay,
Fellow yachtsmen gather
For a dinner grand today
Celebrating our new yacht club,
With its burgee gold and blue;
Honoring its members
And director tried and true.

May it fly for years with honor
O'er the ocean's salty tang,
Hail to our first flagship,
Good old schooner SAMARANG,
As we lauch this "craft of promise"
Gliding proudly down the ways,
May it bring to each one
Years of happy sailing days.

Old Salts Dinner

Saturday, May 17, 2014 1800 cocktails/1900 dinner

The Berkeley Yacht Club recognizes and honors its long time members at the annual "Old Salts" dinner.  At 25 years of membership, a member is deemed an "Old Salt", and the member is our guest for the dinner and receives "the gold watch" of BYC, a special burgee and name tag.  Subsequently, members are again recognized for continued membership in five year increments.  They have wonderful stories to share.  We are planning a wonderful dinner so make your reservations by May 14th.  Don't miss this very special evening.

Friday night racing is back!

Friday night racing has started up for the season at BYC, and almost magically, summer winds have kicked in for the first races.
Known traditionally as Beercan Races, these are a great way to get familiar with racing sailboats on San Francisco Bay, and to put the work-week behind you. The barbecue after the race is a time to compare experiences on the water, or off.
See the Friday Night Racing page for details.

February Ballena Bay Cruise Report

February 9-10 to Ballena Bay

At Berkeley Yacht Club we embrace this time of year not only for the very well-run and well attended
Chowder Races, great music nights, and fabulous dinner meetings, but because we also relish the
winter-month lake-like sailing conditions of The Bay, and take advantage of them to get out and visit
other yacht clubs through BYC's Cruiser programs.

Berkeley Cruisers enjoyed abundant sunshine and light to variable winds February 9th and 10 th, leading
