August Dinner Meeting - Sailor Songs and Mulligatawny Stew

NOTE:What a wonderful dinner the Mulligatawny Stew (more a soup) was outstanding along with the Pork Chops, salad and dessert.  Thanks again to our Rear Commodore Colin Thompson, Lauren Knobel and our galley staff for this enjoyable evening of food and entertainment.  Simon (or evil twin brother Stephen) performed and explained the history of the fiddle tunes, sea chanteys and more.  Thanks again, Bob and Betty Gray

Sunday, August 20, 2017 Tri-Island Part 3

This is a reminder that the 3rd installment of this years Tri-Island Pursuit Series will take place on Sunday, August 20th.  This is a truly fun event and the finale takes us on a circumnavigation around Angel Island from Berkeley and back home.  The series is up for grabs and even if you have not competed in the first two you are welcome to join in on the festivities.  What could be better than a Sunday mean, day sail around Angel Island.

Announcing the 2018 Pacific Cup - the Fun Race to Hawaii

BYC member Peter Masson, on his sailing vessel Cetacea has already signed up for the 2018 Pacific Cup.  So with just under one year until the start of the 2018 Pacific Cup race from San Francisco to beautiful Kaneohe, Hawaii enter now and start preparing for the adventure of a lifetime.  BYC members have raced in every Pacific Cup race since the start of the race in 1980.  Just ask members Bobbi Tosse, Paul Kamen, John Clauser, Jim Freeland, Jack Bieda, Pat Lowther, Bob Gray, Dave Douglas, to name a few.

BYC Kids Camp T-Shirt goes on Transpac 2017

Paul Kamen, Navigator on the sailing vessel Alicante, Transpac 2017 seen here at the helm wearing BYC Kids Camp t-shirt.  Alicante a Sabre 386 Maark II, finished 4th in Division 7.  Additional BYC members racing in this year Transpac were Staff Commodore Mark Van Selst, Watch Captain and Hans Opsahl Navigator and current BYC Treasurer aboard the sailing vessel Deception.  Deception a Santa Cruz 50, finished 2nd in Division 4.

A reminder that the BYC Tri-Island Pursuit Race 2 is this Sunday, July 9th.  All Sailing Instructions are posted.  The second race of the 3 part series will see the racers circumnavigate Treasure Island.  Always a challenge to decide which way to go.  If you have any questions please contact Patrick Hind-Smith at email

BYC Kids Camp Scavenger Hunt

Keeping the Camp Kids busy inside the club house was a challenge.  So, Lisa Holly came up with a Scavenger Hunt.  Can you find the following:

1. A Captain

2. A person over 65 years old

3. A port and starboard light on a compass

4. A trophy with a bell

5. A model sail boat

6. A ships clock

7. A clock that says the time in another country

BYC July 4th 2017 Benicia Cruise Last Call

The July 4th holiday is fast approaching.  Next Saturday, July 1st, starts the 4 day cruise to Benicia by Glenn Fagerlin, Cruise Leader.  The events are:

Saturday, July 1 - Cruise to Benicia, dinner at the Benicia Yacht Club

Sunday, July 2 - Dock party, pot luck or on your own for dinner

Monday, July 3 - Hang out, tour historic Benicia, parade in downtown Benicia at 6:30

Tuesday July 4 - Group dinner Union Hotel 7 pm, fireworks at 9:30

Wednesday July 5 - Return
